Lahore: Senior journalist and Senior Correspondent of Express News, Afzal Talib, has been elected General Secretary of the Lahore Press Club (LPC) in the recently concluded annual elections. He contested the polls on the Journalist Panel against the rival Grand Alliance. Afzal Talib also serves as Member Editorial Board at The Advocate Post.
The Journalist Panel, led by presidential candidate Arshad Ansari, achieved a decisive victory, sweeping the key positions. Arshad Ansari was elected President of the Lahore Press Club after securing 1,283 votes, defeating Grand Alliance candidate Azam Chaudhary, who received 711 votes.
For the post of General Secretary, Afzal Talib secured 1,059 votes, while his opponent Abdul Majid Sajid obtained 814 votes. Independent candidate Ijaz Mirza received 103 votes.
Following the announcement of the results, prominent political and government figures extended their congratulations to the newly elected LPC leadership. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Information Atta Ullah Tarar, along with other leaders and senior journalists, congratulated the winners and expressed hope that the new body would work for press freedom and journalists’ welfare.
The successful Journalist Panel victory is being seen as a strong vote of confidence by the journalistic community in Lahore, with expectations that the new leadership will play an active role in addressing professional challenges faced by journalists.
