The United Para Sports Development Foundation (UPSDF) has announced the appointment of H.E. Hassan Daud, former Ambassador of Somalia to the Russian Federation, as a member of its Executive Committee, marking another step in the organisation’s efforts to strengthen its international leadership and expand global cooperation in para-sports.
With more than 25 years of experience in diplomacy, government administration and international relations, Daud is expected to contribute to the Foundation’s strategic partnerships, institutional engagement and growing presence across Africa.
A Distinguished Diplomatic Career
Hassan Daud served as Somalia’s Ambassador to Russia from 2021 to 2024, following his tenure as Senior Advisor to the President of Somalia between 2017 and 2021.
His professional career also includes senior responsibilities within Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including positions as Permanent Secretary and Senior Advisor.
A graduate of the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a master’s degree in Politics and International Relations, Daud brings extensive experience in diplomatic negotiations, foreign policy and international cooperation.
Expanding International Cooperation
Based in India, UPSDF is an international initiative dedicated to supporting para-athletes, advancing disability inclusion and promoting equal opportunities through sports.
The Foundation is developing a global leadership network comprising diplomats, parliamentarians, government officials, business leaders and sports professionals from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.
Through international partnerships, UPSDF seeks to improve access to professional training, specialised sporting equipment, sponsorships and competitive opportunities, particularly for athletes in developing countries.
Strengthening Para-Sports in Africa
Daud’s appointment is expected to support UPSDF’s engagement with African governments, diplomatic institutions and development organisations.
His experience and international connections could facilitate new institutional partnerships, encourage investment in disability-inclusive sporting programmes and create opportunities for African para-athletes to participate in international competitions.
The appointment also reflects the growing importance of sports diplomacy as a means of promoting social inclusion, strengthening international relationships and supporting sustainable development.
As UPSDF continues expanding its international network, the Foundation aims to establish itself as a platform connecting governments, institutions and sporting communities in advancing opportunities for athletes with disabilities worldwide.
