Ms. Bushra Naz, Strategic Communication Manager at the Australian High Commission, and Mr. Afzal Talib, Senior Vice President of the Lahore Press Club, led discussions focused on advancing mutual priorities especially in the areas of women’s leadership, skilled migration, education, and youth engagement in media, journalism and role of Lahore Press Club.
Also present at the event was Mr. Abdul Rafay Afzal, Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate Post and President (Youth) of the Civil Society Network Pakistan. He briefed attendees on the publication’s work, especially its contributions to social awareness, youth development, and women’s empowerment across Pakistan. Senior members of the Lahore Press Club were also in attendance, underscoring the importance of media in fostering global connections.
During the meeting, Ms. Bushra Naz emphasized Australia’s long-standing commitment to empowering communities and promoting equality. She highlighted key initiatives such as the Australia Awards Scholarships, the Water Security Initiative, and Direct Aid Projects programs that have brought real, measurable impact to local communities by fostering education, inclusion, and opportunity.
Both sides agreed on the importance of expanding professional exchanges, launching cross-sector collaborations, and organizing leadership and mentorship workshops, particularly to amplify women’s participation in media, science, artificial intelligence, journalism, and sports. Senior Vice President Lahore Press Club invited the Honorable Australian High Commissioner to visit Lahore Press Club in near future.
Ms. Naz was warmly welcomed by Mr. Talib and the Press Club team, who praised vision, eloquence, and confidence in representing Australia’s diplomatic and development agenda in Pakistan. Mr. Talib, known for his progressive stance and support for innovation in journalism, lauded the Australian High Commission’s ongoing role in nurturing educational and cultural ties.
