The Advocate Post – Islamabad: Abdul Rafay Afzal Editor in Chief of The Advocate Post, international journalist, lawyer and global affairs and policy advisor, called on His Excellency Archbishop Germano Penemote, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Pakistan, at the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See in Islamabad. Archbishop Germano Penemote is the present Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan, and the Nunciature is the diplomatic mission of the Holy See in Islamabad.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of matters of mutual interest, including interfaith harmony, faith-based dialogue, education, humanitarian engagement and the wider diplomatic role of the Holy See.
The discussion placed particular emphasis on the importance of interfaith harmony in Pakistan, especially in strengthening mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement among communities of different faiths.
Afzal appreciated the significant contribution of the Catholic Church in Pakistan’s educational sector, noting that Catholic institutions have played an important role in promoting quality education, character-building and social service across the country. Pakistan always recognised the long-standing contribution of Christian missionary schools, colleges and hospitals in education, health and social welfare.
The meeting also touched upon the broader international work associated with the Holy See’s diplomatic missions, including its engagements and missions in Africa, Asia and beyond, where faith-based institutions continue to contribute to education, humanitarian service, peacebuilding and community development. Both sides agreed to work on the inter-faith harmony and its importance to enhance tolerance in the society to achieve sustained peace and prosperity.
Speaking after the meeting, Abdul Rafay Afzal said that dialogue between diplomatic, religious, educational and civil society institutions remains essential for addressing contemporary Global challenges. He added that interfaith cooperation can serve as a bridge for peace, social cohesion and international understanding.
Afzal further noted that Pakistan’s diverse social and religious fabric makes interfaith engagement particularly important, adding that platforms of dialogue can help promote tolerance, inclusion and cooperation at both national and international levels.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with appreciation for continued dialogue in areas linked to interfaith harmony, education, humanitarian service, media diplomacy and international cooperation.
