In an impressive show of support, thousands of enthusiastic supporters of the ruling party, Kulmiye, took to the streets across Somaliland, signaling a strong lead in the upcoming elections. Starting at 6 PM yesterday and continuing into today, crowds filled the capital, Hargeisa, as well as Burao, Berbera, and every district in the nation to rally behind Kulmiye and President Muse Bihi Abdi.
This marks the start of Kulmiye’s three-day campaign, as outlined by the national election committee, and it appears to have eclipsed the demonstration by the opposition party Waddani the previous day. The campaign launch was massive, with visible support not just in the capital but also in five other major cities, showcasing the party’s wide-reaching influence.
President Muse Bihi Abdi, a formidable candidate, managed to address supporters in three cities—Hargeisa, Burao, and Berbera—within hours, thanks to the strategic use of air travel. His speeches were met with enthusiasm and praise, reinforcing the confidence of many that the party is poised for another victory.
With the dual election process underway, Kulmiye is not only vying to elect the president and vice president but is also part of the larger context where three national political parties will emerge from a competitive field of ten. The ten associations, which include the established parties Kulmiye, Waddani, and UCID, are engaged in a historic and remarkable democratic process, showcasing Somaliland’s commitment to political diversity and participation.
Kulmiye’s strategic positioning and robust campaigning put the party in a favorable position to form the government once again. As voters head to the polls, the momentum behind Kulmiye suggests a strong possibility of continued leadership under President Muse Bihi Abdi, providing stability and progress for the country in the coming years.
