Luxury Yacht Sinks in Tornado Off Sicily, British Tech Tycoon Among Missing

The Advocate Post: Rescuers are searching for six people, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, who went missing after a tornado struck and sank their luxury yacht off the coast of Sicily.

The yacht, which was anchored about half a mile from Porticello, was hit by the tornado around 5 a.m. Monday. The incident has claimed the life of one of the 22 people on board.

Among those reported missing are two Americans and four Britons, according to the spokeswoman. Lynch, the creator of the well-known software company Autonomy, was a passenger on the yacht, In addition to Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares, fifteen individuals were saved, and one infant was evacuated to the children’s hospital in Palermo.

The mayor’s office reported that eight persons were admitted to the hospital overall. The Coast Guard reported that they had located one body on the yacht’s hull.

An assortment of tornadoes, including a minor waterspout, formed over the region on Monday morning, as per a report from the European Severe Weather Database.
