According to Ilya Seredyuk, the acting governor of the area, two trams collided on a bridge on Thursday,
sixty-seven persons were injured, three in a very critical condition in the Russian city of Kemerovo.
Situated in the Kuzbass coal mining region in western Siberia, Kemerevo is a city home to over
540,000 people. Russia, resulting in one fatality and numerous injuries, including five children,
according to the regional health ministry.
The governor disclosed on social media platform “Telegram” that two individuals are receiving
critical care at a Siberian city hospital, while one person is in the operation room. Images
circulated by Russian media showed one tram seemingly losing control as it descended a hill and
colliding with another that was stopping to pick up passengers.
Ahead of the driverless revolution, a tram equipped with a Russian AI system for testing crashed
into civilians due to a brake malfunction. Formerly, multiple people were hurt in a horrifying
incident in St. Petersburg that was captured on camera. A 45-year-old lady who became stuck
beneath the tram was “seriously hurt.”
The artificial intelligence-equipped £1.7 million “retro” tram was testing with a driver. The
skilled 45-year-old driver claimed that shortly after, the AI system “turned off” and the brakes
including the backup emergency brake mechanism failed.
The new tram fleet is manufactured by UralTransMash, a division of UralVagonZavod, a tank
manufacturer, and UralTransMash, Russia’s top manufacturer of self-propelled artillery, which
provided weapons for Putin’s war.
The Russian-designed AI “driver assistance system” on the so-called “Smart Tram” was turned
off, but it remained unclear why. Although the city is introducing autonomous trams in the long
run, the accident represents a serious blow to public trust in the human-free concept.
