Somaliland Minister Sheikh Abdullahi Daahir Jama Says ‘Time Has Come’ for World to Listen

Hargeisa: Somaliland’s Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Sheikh Abdullahi Daahir Jama (Baashe), has called on the international community to give greater attention to Somaliland’s voice and aspirations as President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi leads a Somaliland delegation on an official visit to the United States.

In a statement shared on his X account, Sheikh Abdullahi Daahir Jama welcomed the President’s diplomatic engagement in the United States and said the time had come for Somaliland’s position to receive more serious international consideration.

“The time has come for the world to truly listen to the voice of the Republic of Somaliland and to take a deeper look at its just cause,” Sheikh Abdullahi Daahir Jama said.

The Minister also praised the delegation led by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi for representing Somaliland and communicating its position during engagements in the United States.

The visit forms part of Somaliland’s broader diplomatic efforts to strengthen its international engagement and present its political, economic and strategic case directly to international partners.

Somaliland has for decades pursued international recognition while maintaining its own governing institutions, security structures and political system. Its leadership has increasingly sought to draw international attention not only to its recognition campaign but also to its strategic location in the Horn of Africa, maritime security, trade, investment and regional stability.

Sheikh Abdullahi Daahir Jama’s remarks reflect the importance Somaliland officials have attached to the President’s visit and the opportunity it presents to communicate Somaliland’s position to political and policy circles in the United States.

By calling on the international community to “truly listen” to Somaliland, the Minister emphasized what has become a central message of Somaliland’s diplomatic outreach: that its leadership wants its case to be assessed directly, seriously and within the broader geopolitical realities of the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.

The President’s visit is therefore being viewed by Somaliland officials as another opportunity to broaden international engagement and strengthen the country’s diplomatic visibility abroad.
