Hargeisa: Abdul Rafay Afzal, Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate Post, a lawyer and global affairs and policy advisor, held a meeting with Mohamed Behi Yonis, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland (2013–2015), during his official visit to Somaliland on the sidelines of Somaliland Minerals Expo 2025 organised by Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Somaliland.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Somaliland Minerals Expo 2025, which Afzal is attending on an invitation from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. Mr. Yonis was accompanied by his son during the interaction.
The discussion covered ongoing political and economic developments in Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa, as well as regional and global affairs. The two also exchanged views on Mr. Yonis’s extensive and impactful work with international institutions, including the African Union and the United Nations.
Mr. Afzal described the meeting as “thoughtful and insightful,” noting Mr. Yonis’s longstanding contribution to diplomacy and international cooperation. He highlighted that Mohamed Behi Yonis is widely regarded as one of the most reputable and respected figures of Somaliland beyond its borders, with a legacy that continues to shape international engagement with the region.
The engagement reflects the growing international interest surrounding Somaliland’s strategic sectors, particularly energy and minerals, as well as the importance of dialogue between policymakers, diplomats, and global affairs experts during major international forums such as the Somaliland Minerals Expo 2025.
