Somaliland Welcomes Israel’s Official Recognition, Signals Intention to Join Abraham Accords

Hargeisa: The Republic of Somaliland has formally welcomed the State of Israel’s decision to recognize its sovereignty and independence, calling the move historic and a major milestone in its long pursuit of international legitimacy.

In an official declaration issued on Thursday, Somaliland described Israel’s recognition as a reaffirmation of its historical, legal, and moral claim to statehood, as well as acknowledgement of its record as a stable, democratic, and responsible actor in the Horn of Africa.

President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) stated that the decision reflects mutual respect and shared interests between the two peoples, and marks the beginning of a new chapter in Somaliland’s foreign relations.

The declaration further announced Somaliland’s intention to accede to the Abraham Accords, signaling its readiness to engage in broader frameworks of cooperation, dialogue, and peace-building in the Middle East and Africa. Somaliland emphasized that joining the accords aligns with its vision of advancing regional stability, economic cooperation, and constructive international partnerships.

Additionally, Somaliland confirmed that Israel’s recognition paves the way for the establishment of full diplomatic relations between the two sides. According to the statement, both governments will move forward to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, guided by shared values, mutual respect, and friendship.

Observers note that this development could have significant geopolitical implications for the Horn of Africa, potentially strengthening Somaliland’s diplomatic standing and opening new avenues for political, economic, and security cooperation on the international stage.
