President Muse Bihi Abdi led Somalilanders in marking 30 years since establishing Somaliland’s Central Bank and the national currency, the Somaliland Shilling. Since its inception, the shilling has symbolized Somaliland’s commitment to economic self-reliance following its separation from Somalia.
During the commemorative event, key financial leaders highlighted the Central Bank’s role in economic growth, as the Somaliland Shilling has evolved, stabilizing the national economy. Dr. Ali Abdillahi Dahir, Governor of the Central Bank, discussed the institution’s transformation, policy development, and economic contributions. Financial leaders, including Dahabshiil founder Mohamed Saeed, emphasized the currency’s impact on economic independence, local business growth, and governance.
President Bihi Abdi also reminded Somalilanders of the importance of responsible conduct ahead of upcoming elections, urging unity and peaceful participation. The evolution of the Somaliland Shilling reflects the country’s journey toward economic resilience, fostering local investment, trade, and governance.
