Lebanese militant group: Hezbollah confirms that Isreal killed the key commander in Beirut strike

The Advocate Post: Hezbollah has confirmed one of its senior military commanders was killed in an Israeli air strike in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

The group supported by Iran announced late on Wednesday that Fuad Shukr’s body had been discovered among the Tuesday-attacked building’s debris.

Two children were among the four other victims of the strike who also perished. The Israeli military had earlier claimed that Shukr was the victim of a “intelligence-based elimination”.

It stated that the strike was in retaliation for a rocket attack that took 12 lives on Saturday in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and that the commander was allegedly involved in planning.

Hezbollah has refuted any role in this. Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, is thought to have relied heavily on military advice from Fuad Shukr, who was in the beginning of his sixties.

A building in the Beirut district of Dahiyeh, Haret Hreik, was the target of the attack. It’s a heavily inhabited, fortified neighborhood. There are checkpoints run by Hezbollah all around Dahiyeh.

A ten-year-old boy and his six-year-old sister perished in the airstrike. The announcement stated that Shukr will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Najib Mikati, the prime minister of Lebanon, referred to the attack as a “criminal act”.

It was generally anticipated that Israel would respond to the rocket strike on the Golan on Saturday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was given permission by the nation’s security cabinet to choose how to respond.

It is now practically a given that Hezbollah will respond. The heavily armed, Iranian-backed militia has already attacked Israel with missile barrages in retaliation for the deaths of top members.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged in a televised speech that “challenging days lie ahead” just prior to Hezbollah’s declaration.

“Since the attack in Beirut, there are threats emanating from all directions,” he continued. We are equipped to handle any situation.”
