The Advocate Post: A group of 45 American physicians and nurses who volunteered in hospitals across Gaza have sent an open letter to US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris sharing their experiences and demanding an immediate ceasefire and arms embargo.
All of the undersigned reported treating youngsters whose injuries they thought could only have been caused on purpose. They wrote,
“To be more precise, each of us treated pre-teen children shot in the head and chest on a daily basis.”
“We wish you could witness the nightmares that have befallen so many of us since our return: visions of our weapons having maimed and disfigured youngsters, with their distraught moms pleading with us to save them. Our consciences won’t allow us to forget the shouts and tears, which we wish you could hear.
According to the letter, a large number of the group has experience helping in crisis areas like Iraq and Ukraine and has a background in public health. Dr. Feroze Sidwa, who led the writing of the letter with the other doctors, wrote to X on Thursday, saying,
“We believe we are well positioned to comment on the massive human toll from Israel’s attack on Gaza, especially the toll it has taken on women and children.”
In their letter, the doctors and nurses demand that the Biden administration support an arms embargo on Israel and all Palestinian militias, as well as refrain from providing Israel with military, diplomatic, and financial support until an immediate and durable peace is reached. The White House has been contacted for a statement.
The White House is under pressure to accept an armistice agreement from the Israelis, so this comes at a crucial moment. A day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to the US Congress about the crisis, Biden met with him on Thursday. According Israeli sources who spoke with media, the president was prepared to press Netanyahu to accept a deal with as much vigor as before.
