Potential oil spill from sunken ship carrying 1,500 tons of oil fuel in the Philippines

The Advocate Post: There has been an oil spill detected in the Philippine capital caused by a tanker carrying almost 1.5 million liters of industrial that had capsized and sank in the area.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has said that, currently, sixteen crew member of the Philippine-flagged MT Terra Nova have been rescued, with one still missing.

He said that an oil spill has been detected, but environmental hazards such as winds are disrupting the authorities’ response.

Just a day before this incident, Typhoon Gaemi had intensified seasonal monsoon rains, flooding large swathes of Metro Manila and its suburbs.
