The Advocate Post:

Cologne-Bonn Airport, one of Germany’s largest, ceased all flight operations after climate activists glued themselves to a runway without authorization.

The airport diverted at least four inbound flights to nearby Düsseldorf and Hannover airports, with numerous departures from Cologne experiencing delays or cancellations.

The group responsible, Last Generation, reported that five members affixed themselves to the tarmac to obstruct air traffic.

They emphasized their demand for the German government to commit to a worldwide initiative for phasing out oil, gas, and coal by 2030.

The group announced intentions for “peaceful, civil protests” at airports across Europe and North America on Wednesday. In Finland, demonstrators were seen obstructing security gates at Helsinki Vantaa Airport. Elsewhere in Scandinavia, three activists breached the perimeter fence at Oslo’s GardermoenAirport early Wednesday. Norwegian media reported their removal within approximately 30 minutes of their entry.
