Abdul Rafay Afzal Meets Somaliland Minister of Religion and Endowments to Discuss International Cooperation and Religious Diplomacy

Hargeisa: Abdul Rafay Afzal, Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate Post, held a high-level meeting with Minister of Relgion and Endowments of Somaliland Sh. Abdilahi Dahir Jama at the Ministry in Hargeisa, engaging in substantive discussions on religious diplomacy, international cooperation, and the evolving role of media in shaping cross-border engagement.

The meeting focused on strengthening institutional and people-to-people linkages between Somaliland and international partners, particularly in the domain of religious affairs and community development. Both sides emphasized the importance of constructive religious outreach (Tabligh) as a means of promoting social cohesion, ethical values, and peaceful coexistence in contemporary societies.

A significant part of the dialogue centered on the Minister’s visit to Pakistan in December, during which he engaged with educational institutions, and stakeholders. Minister Jama shared reflections on his visit, highlighting the depth of religious scholarship, and opportunities for enhanced bilateral engagement between religious and academic institutions of Somaliland and Pakistan in areas such as religious education, cultural exchange, and institutional collaboration.

Abdul Rafay Afzal underscored the growing role of media diplomacy and intellectual platforms in bridging regions, facilitating dialogue, and projecting balanced narratives about emerging regions like Somaliland. He noted that platforms such as The Advocate Post remain committed to highlighting policy discourse, leadership perspectives, and international cooperation initiatives across regions.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding on the need to further explore structured cooperation frameworks, including academic exchanges, religious dialogue forums, and collaborative initiatives that contribute to stability, mutual understanding, and sustainable development.

Observers note that such engagements reflect Somaliland’s increasing openness to international partnerships and its emphasis on leveraging religious and cultural diplomacy as tools for global engagement.
