Somaliland May Launch Commemorative Banknote Following Proposal by Abdul Rafay Afzal

Hargeisa: Somaliland could soon issue a new commemorative banknote after Mr. Abdul Rafay Afzal, Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate Post, formally submitted a proposal to the Bank of Somaliland. The initiative was discussed during a high-level meeting with Mr. Hamse Khaire, Deputy Governor of the Bank, focusing on the country’s efforts to modernize its banking system and strengthen financial institutions.

Afzal’s proposal outlines the concept, symbolic significance, and objectives of the commemorative note, emphasizing Somaliland’s progress, institutional maturity, and national identity. According to sources, the proposal received a positive reception and is expected to be presented at an upcoming Board of Directors meeting for formal consideration.

If approved, the commemorative banknote is likely to attract significant attention from the global numismatic community, where collectors follow the issuance of unique and symbolic currencies.
