Trump Thanks Kurdistan Region President for Supporting Peace Efforts in the Middle East

Erbil: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has received a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump, in which the American leader expressed his gratitude for Barzani’s support of recent peace initiatives and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to reducing tensions across the Middle East.

According to a statement released by the Kurdistan Region Presidency on Tuesday, President Trump thanked Barzani “for supporting his peace initiatives and emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts in the Middle East.”

The letter underscored Trump’s message that “nations around the world can move beyond old disputes and work toward a shared future of peace, prosperity, and development.” It also reiterated his administration’s “commitment to fostering lasting peace, reducing tensions in the Middle East, and ending violence and warfare both in the region and globally.”

In late September, Barzani publicly welcomed Trump’s proposed peace plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, praising what he described as the U.S. president’s “leadership and dedication” to achieving stability in the region.

The United States maintains close relations with the Kurdistan Region, providing military assistance and training to the Peshmerga forces as part of broader counterterrorism and stabilization efforts in Iraq.

Earlier this year, during a visit to Washington by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted Erbil’s political autonomy and economic openness as “the linchpin of America’s approach toward Iraq.”

The latest correspondence between Trump and Nechirvan Barzani reinforces the enduring partnership between the United States and the Kurdistan Region, particularly amid ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
