In a powerful address marking the 34th anniversary of Somaliland’s rebirth, the President IRRO of Somaliland delivered a stirring speech celebrating the nation’s resilience, democratic progress, and unwavering pursuit of international recognition. The event, attended by dignitaries, officials, and citizens, honored the legacy of the Somali National Movement (SNM) leadership and reaffirmed Somaliland’s commitment to peace, unity, and development.
A Legacy of Struggle and Sovereignty
Reflecting on Somaliland’s hard-won independence in 1991, the President paid tribute to the sacrifices of past leaders and citizens who paved the way for the nation’s self-determination. He emphasized Somaliland’s unique historical path, rooted in peaceful governance, democratic transitions, and economic growth—a stark contrast to regional instability.
“Our journey has not been easy, but our people’s determination has built a nation worthy of global recognition,”
he declared.
Democratic Milestones and Economic Progress
The President highlighted Somaliland’s achievements, including successful elections, a thriving private sector, and infrastructural advancements. He praised the active participation of youth and women in nation-building, urging continued collaboration to sustain progress.
“Our democracy is young but strong. Our economy is growing, and our people are united. The world must acknowledge what we have built,”
he asserted.
A Call for Global Recognition and Strategic Partnerships
Reiterating Somaliland’s demand for formal recognition, the President pointed to deepening ties with key allies, including:
- Kenya – Strengthening trade and diplomatic engagement.
- UAE – Investments in ports and infrastructure.
- Ethiopia – Security and economic cooperation.
- United Kingdom & U.S. – Support for governance and development.
- Djibouti & Turkey – Regional stability and partnership.
- Taiwan – Mutual recognition and collaboration.
These nations see Somaliland’s potential. We welcome more partners to join us in fosterina peace and prosperity in the Horn of Africa, in his Closing speech, the President called for national solidarity, urging citizens to safeguara Somaliland’s sovereignty and democratic values. He expressed optimism about the future, vowing to pursue recognition through diplomacy and regional cooperation.
“Our case is just, our resolve unshaken. Somaliland’s time has come.”
