The Advocate Post: In a startling medical case, doctors in Madhya Pradesh successfully removed a 16-inch bottle gourd (lauki) from a man’s rectum after a complex two-hour surgery. The 60-year-old farmer arrived at the hospital with severe stomach pain, prompting an X-ray that revealed the unusual object lodged in his rectum.

Despite the growing frequency of such foreign object removals in medical practice, these incidents continue to shock. The exact circumstances of how the bottle gourd ended up in the man’s rectum remain unclear, as the patient did not provide any explanation.

The medical team, consisting of Dr. Manoj Chaudhary, Dr. Nandkishore Jatav, Dr. Ashish Shukla, and Dr. Sanjay Maurya, performed the surgery following the initial examination. The doctors confirmed that the man was out of danger and recovering well after the procedure.

Dr. Chaudhary speculated that the incident could be related to mental illness, a testicular disorder, or an accident. The hospital has initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause.

This incident recalls a similar case from March in Vietnam, where a 34-year-old man was found to have a live eel trapped in his abdomen, entering through his anus. These rare cases highlight the challenges and complexities faced by medical professionals in dealing with foreign objects in the body.
