Death of Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh Marks Most Significant Israeli Operation Since October 7

The Israeli military has declined to comment on Iranian state media reports of Ismail Haniyeh’s death. While Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran, was not a military figure, he played a crucial role in Hamas’ international relations and negotiations.

Israeli authorities view him as responsible for the October 7 attack and are committed to targeting those involved. Musa Abu Marzouk from Hamas described Haniyeh’s assassination as a cowardly act that will not go unanswered. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hussein Al-Sheikh of the PLO both condemned the killing, calling for unity and resilience against the Israeli occupation.
