Deadly Polio Virus detected in the sewage waters of Gaza

News Desk

According to tests carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the deadly and infectious Polio virus has been detected in the sewage water samples in Gaza, which could put thousands of Palestinians under the extreme risk of contracting the disease, resulting in paralysis.

Type 2 Poliovirus was found in 6 locations from sewage samples retrieved from Khan Younis and Deir al Balah on June 23, said WHO. They said the virus was related to “disastrous sanitation situation” which was created by the atrocious violence of Israel’s military assaults on Gaza ever since October 7.

They further stated that the virus was isolated from the environment at the moment, on top of the fact that there were no cases of paralysis so far. Although no Gazan citizens were treated or have been identified with the symptoms of polio, they are still warned to be wary of its threat. Various UN agencies, like UNICEF, and The children’s fund, are working together at the time to figure out how far the virus has spread.
