Pakistan and Tajikistan have exempted official passports from visa requirements: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared that official passports from Tajikistan and Pakistan are no longer subject to visa restrictions, which is a significant development.

The premier began a two-day official visit to Dushanbe on Tuesday. As he arrived at the presidential residence of Tajikistan, Qasr-e-Millat, he was greeted by President Emomali Rahmon.

As multiple memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed between the two nations, PM Shehbaz stated during a press conference in Tajikistan’s capital that the bilateral ties between Islamabad and Dushanbe would only get stronger.

In addition, he promised to seek to advance investment, trade, agriculture, health, and education between the two countries.

The visiting premier also stated that he would like to be a part of the commercial corridor that runs between China, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan as well as establish connections between Pakistan and Tajikistan via roads and rails. He added that goods are being carried via Afghanistan from the port of Karachi to Tajikistan.

Additionally, he declared that official passports from Tajikistan and Pakistan were immune from the need for a visa. Regarding the matter of terrorism, the prime minister declared that Tajikistan and Pakistan are victims of this threat.

“Pakistan has long been plagued by the evil of terrorism. In the fight against terrorism, the nation has made tremendous sacrifices,”

he declared.

“In 2017, we succeeded in driving out terrorists from the nation. Unfortunately, the threat is already resurfacing,” 

he emphasised, adding that Pakistan.

Additionally highlighting the significance of regional peace, Prime Minister Shehbaz stated,

“The region can’t prosper without peace.”

He expressed optimism that the ambitious CASA-1000 project, which aims to create renewable energy infrastructure, will be finished by the next year and bring prosperity to the area.

Along with highlighting the problems the globe is currently facing—such as the conflict in Ukraine and the unstable humanitarian situation in Gaza—he also stated his support for the right to freedom of the Palestinian people. Since October 7, the Israeli military onslaught in the Gaza Strip has resulted in at least 37,925 Palestinian deaths and 87,141 injuries, according to a statement released by the Gaza Health Ministry on Tuesday.

The prime minister conveyed his appreciation for Tajikistan’s cordial welcome. He extended an invitation to the Tajik President to come to Pakistan.
