Suspected Female Suicide Bombers in Nigeria claims at least 18 lives in violent attacks

Disastrous blasts suspected to have been caused by female suicide bombers in Nigeria causes the deaths of at least 18 people, leaving around 30 more injured. Emergency management agency of the state has said the attacks were directed at the wedding, and subsequent funeral of the victims, as well as a hospital in the town near the border of Cameroon, Gwoza. The attacks were condemned by President Bola Tinubu, who described the blasts as “desperate acts of terror”.

He reinstated that the recent attacks did not alleviate their efforts made against jihadists, and that the culprits behind these incidents will not go unscathed. In his statement issued by his spokesperson on Facebook, he stated the attackers will face justice and such a small incident will not affect the nation’s wider prospects, promising a time in his nation absent of fear and terror.

Although nobody has yet to declare ownership over the attacks, the Nigeria-centered Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents, who have previously admitted to carrying our deadly bombings in Borno, are in the line of suspects. Official sources have claimed a total of 18 deaths have been confirmed as of Saturday, which consisted of children, adults and even pregnant women. Other local sources have reported even higher body counts, such as Nigeria’s Vanguard and This Day newspapers, both of which reported at least 30 lives were lost in the attack. Major injuries include abdominal ruptures to skull and limb fractures. As a response, the military has applied a curfew.
