Recently, a crash between a bus and a train in Slovakia has resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries of five more, says the country’s emergency services. All fatalities have been presumed to be from the bus, as Slovakian Railway Company ZSSK has said on their Facebook page that none of the EuroCity train passengers had died. They have also given their condolences to the family and loved ones of the bus passengers who have been hurt or have passed away.
According to Slovak Emergency Medical Service, there is an ongoing emergency response at the crash site in Nove Zamky, with three ambulance helicopters currently present at the scene. Footage shared by Reuters shows smoke and fire coming out of a train car as a person can be heard saying there was a “big bang” and then the train was stopped as passengers were evacuated.
The train was making its journey from Czech capital Prague towards the Hungarian capital of Budapest. More than 100 of the evacuated passengers were taken to the town of Sturovo on the Hungarian border by buses. Later in a statement shared with CNN, ZSSK has said that “All passengers were evacuated from the scene with the assistance of our staff. Our hearts and thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the bus passengers who suffered injuries or losses in this accident,”.
