In a significant uptick, air defense systems comprised approximately 36 percent of Israel’s weapons export deals in 2023, as detailed in the annual report by Israel’s Defence Exports Department of the Defence Ministry. This marks a considerable increase from the 19 percent share reported the previous year, according to Haaretz.
The report also highlights other key areas of export. Radar and electronic warfare systems, along with fire and launch equipment, each accounted for 11 percent of the total exports. Drones and avionics made up 9 percent, while ammunition and armaments contributed 8 percent.
Over the past five years, Israel’s defense exports have seen a remarkable doubling in scope. Notably, the country has set new records for defense exports for three consecutive years. The report outlines the geographic distribution of these exports in 2023: nearly half (48 percent) went to Asia and the Pacific, 35 percent to Europe, 9 percent to North America, 4 percent to Latin America, 3 percent to countries part of the Abraham Accords, and 1 percent to Africa.
These figures underscore Israel’s growing footprint in the global defense market, driven by advanced technology and strategic partnerships. As global demand for sophisticated defense systems increases, Israel’s export trajectory appears set to continue its upward trend, reinforcing its position as a key player in the international defense industry.
