If Modi Understands…

By Zabih Ullah Khattak (Pakistan)

Last week an attack on tourists in Pahalgam sent its shockwaves across Pakistan and India because the aftermaths of such attacks both the neighboring countries are wrapping their strengths to implode against each other. As the past ill-diplomatic stances being issued by the Indian government, this time they also went even more aggressively. Just minutes after the attack, Indian media and some of the government officials pointed fingers at Pakistan and accused Pakistan for orchestrating the attack despite Pakistan’s quick condemnation and condolences to the bereaved families.

Unlike other countries which cordially carry out their Trans boundary relation with their neighboring countries, Pakistan and India never seep the test of sweetness of better relation. Decades of turmoil between these two countries, it seems an obvious diplomatic failure which never reaches to the point where the world’s most populated countries live side by side.

The Kashmir dispute is the central stumbling block that hinders all the progress and stamped the entire region. Moreover, such intermittent tragedies add fuel to the already flair situation which further exacerbate the relation and devastated the thinly stacked relation between the two nuclear countries.

Following the BJP’s ascension to the government seat, both of the countries have been at the lowest ebb of the relation and never swallow the pill of good relation. The aftermath of article 370 and 35A revocation the hope for one-day-good-relation has died with natural death and both of them stagnated the rhetoric of no-push back.

Although the situation was stitched with a thin thread, still hope of good relations was lived up but the recent attack on tourists seems all out game and both the nations harshly reciprocating on every front. India’s leaders are showing lesser empathy and interest to rebuild the relationship and follow a cordial and diplomatic path.

Moreover, in a hurry and quick response to the attack, India’s abeyance of the Indus Water Treaty showing their childish diplomacy and immature strategy, in such an unpredictable time where a pressing of small button blowing up an entire city, India’s leader are jettison to start war which is detrimental not only for India and Pakistan but for South Asia. As they proceed with a unanimous strategy to punish Pakistan, they should be reminded and delve into the history of such conflicts which never resulted in a success for anyone and the destruction and demonization felt for decades. In speculative and illusory world if the two countries come to end the conflict and come to negotiation table, how they will look like: (Illusory perspective)

Just a quick journey from Lahore to Delhi where meeting with the Indian nationals and they offer us golgappy (pani puri), dahi bhalley, aloo chaat and papri chaat while on the other hand discussing with them items which would be transported from Lahore to be sold out in Delhi and similarly they come to Lahore and we offer them Payye and haleem with butter in their breakfast. On the table we fixed a deal for intra trade between us, and arranged a meeting in which future planes devise and intend a shoulder to shoulder move.

Alas! It won’t happen in the contemporary scenario that is devoid present in the minds of politicians which politicize every move to get more political strength in the place of national coherence and prosperity. Sincerely speaking the situation is not deteriorated by Pakistan’s leaders but the devil ball always swings from the Indian nationalist leaders that blow up the infrastructure of mutual relation.

As India and Pakistan are at the critical juncture, it is the need of the hour to de-escalate the tension and joint investigation should be kicked off to bring forth the perpetrator of the slain tourists’ killings. Both of the countries should learn an iota of lesson from the past three full blown wars in which scourges still fell across the continent.

Adding to that, Pakistan would not left any stone unturned in the response to India despite it loses its identity, we the people of Pakistan always try to consulate and never want any rift but once deep down and pushed by someone, we will not avoid the sacrifice of our lives and also bring forth our lives to protect the motherland from any kind of incursion whether by the world sophisticated and weaponized army.
