The Advocate Post: According to Russian official media, convicts who claimed to be linked with ISIS took numerous staff members hostage at a high security prison in Russia, leading to the deaths of four guards there.

Russian special forces reported that the hostage-takers, all alleged ISIS affiliates, were “eliminated” during an operation at the penal colony in Surovikino.

According to the National Guard of Russia (Rosgvardia) on Telegram, snipers from the Russian National Guard in the Volgograd Region took out four prisoners with precise shots, leading to the release of the hostages.

Graphic social media footage depicts three prison staff members dead in pools of blood, one with a slashed throat, while a fourth staff member is seen on his knees in a doorway.

The attackers’ motives have not been officially confirmed, but the SITE terror monitoring group, after reviewing footage of the incident, reported that one of the suspects described the attack as “revenge” for the militants responsible for a concert venue attack near Moscow that resulted in over 130 deaths.
