The Advocate Post:

Two Katyusha rockets were fired at the Al Asad Airbase, with one landing inside the base.

A Department of Defense spokesperson confirmed the suspected rocket attack on US and Coalition forces, noting that several US personnel were injured. Base personnel are currently assessing the damage.

The exact number of injuries is unclear, but a senior US military official stated that there have been no critical injuries or fatalities reported. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation in the Situation Room.

President Biden stated that updates included threats from Iran and its proxies, diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions, and plans to support Israel if it faces further attacks. He also mentioned ongoing discussions on defending US forces and responding to any attacks strategically.

This attack follows a US strike in Iraq last week, which was described as self-defense against militants reportedly preparing drone attacks on US and coalition forces. Tensions have risen since the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, killed in a blast in Tehran last Wednesday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has accused Israel, with US support, of being behind Haniyeh’s death, though Israel has not commented on the incident.
