Uganda Police detain dozens of people at Anti-Corruption Protests

News Desk

The Advocate Post: Several dozen individuals were arrested in Kampala for participating in unauthorized anti-corruption protests, despite warnings and a ban from President Yoweri Museveni.

The protesters, including a prominent TV host and three leaders, were swiftly brought to court and detained following a demonstration near Uganda’s parliament.

The protests, organized via social media, were sparked by widespread frustration over corruption allegations involving top officials.

Police had earlier denied permission for the march, citing concerns about public safety, and deployed heavily around the parliament area.

Pictures showed demonstrators carrying signs denouncing corruption and facing police action, with many arrested and swiftly charged in what legal experts described as rushed proceedings without bail.
