A Chinese rocket, launched by Space Pioneer, crashed during a ground test on Sunday. The company confirmed the incident in a statement.
A structural breakdown during a test caused the Tianlong-3 rocket’s first stage to break away from its launch platform, which resulted in the accident. It touched down in a steep section of central China’s Gongyi city.
Space Pioneer, also known as Beijing Tianbing Technology, stated that the first-stage rocket was removed from the launch pad “due to the structural failure of the connection between the rocket body and the test platform. After liftoff, the rocket plunged 1.5 kilometres [0.9 miles] southwest of the test site into the steep mountains when the onboard computer immediately shut down. The rocket body broke apart after colliding with the mountain.”
The company stated that since everyone in the vicinity was evacuated before the rocket test, there were no injuries resulting from the incident.
Leading commercial rocket business Space Pioneer is an expert in liquid-propellant rocketry.
