ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) on Sunday passed a resolution vehemently condemning the recent horrific and tragic incidents of mob lynching in various parts of the country.

The right to life is the most prized right guaranteed by the Pakistani Constitution, according to the resolution proposed by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. It read, “Every person is to be dealt with in accordance with the law and not otherwise.”

The House voiced severe worry about the increasing number of mob lynchings of residents in Sargodha and Swat who are allegedly guilty of crimes. “Such actions cannot be tolerated in any civilized society,” it said.

In addition, the House stated that it expected the courts to guarantee prompt and efficient justice in certain instances. It emphasized the necessity of taking prompt legal action to stop similar terrible incidents in the future.

The decision was made in response to claims that a visitor in Swat had desecrated the Holy Quran, which led to his lynching.

Addressing on the NA floor, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif urged the National Assembly to make it very evident that it is committed to upholding the rights of the nation’s minority communities.

He remarked that in order to prevent the misapplication of religion, the National Assembly needed to take a united stand. “The message should go out that Pakistan’s National Assembly has come together on this issue,” the minister stated, adding that it is the House’s responsibility to adopt a unanimous position.

The message, according to the minister, should be quite clear: the people are standing together to defend the liberation of minorities, such as Christians, Sikhs, and Parsis. “Our constitution forbids aggression and the killing of innocent citizens in the name of religion,” he declared. People are using religious feelings as a crutch in interpersonal conflicts.
