As of June 2024, 144 of the 193 UN members have acknowledged the State of Palestine as a sovereign
state. Since November 2012, it has been a non-member observer state at the UN General Assembly.
Several empires, including the Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine, finally came
to dominate the country, followed by the Ottoman Empire and the Islamic Caliphate.
In a joint statement released on May 22, Norway, Ireland, and Spain recognized Palestine as a state, taking
effect on May 28.The majority of the world already acknowledges Palestine as a state. Out of the 193
member states of the UN, over 140 have formally recognized themselves. Now there are now 145
countries officially recognizing Palestinians’ right to live in their own country alongside Israel.
However, a few of them are limited to the 27 members of the European Union. After the country’s
parliament gave the formal recognition of Palestinian statehood a majority vote on Tuesday, Slovenia
became the most recent European nation to do so.
Most of the countries in the world recognizes the sovereignty of the state of Palestine including North
Korea, Denmark, China and many other. While the expanding movement in Europe is expected to support the Palestinian cause worldwide, it may also worsen relations with Israel.
Palestine is mentioned in the following verses of the Qur’an:
(2:58) And [think back to] the moment when We commanded, “Enter this city and eat from it wherever you will in [ease and] abundance, and enter the gate humbly, bowing down, and say, Heal us from our burdens.”
With 25 abstentions, the global body voted 143–9 in favor of the resolution submitted by the Arab and
Palestinian organizations. Along with Israel, Argentina, Hungary, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, and Papua
New Guinea, the United States voted against it. Following multiple procedural obstacles, the vote was
approved at an extraordinary session of parliament, according to the outlet.
