Taliban Criticizes Pakistan’s Threat to Expel Afghan Immigrants

The Taliban administration in Kabul has responded to Pakistan’s recent threat of forcibly expelling illegal Afghan immigrants, deeming it “unacceptable.” The dispute centers around an estimated 1.73 million Afghan immigrants residing in Pakistan without legal status, with Pakistan’s interim government imposing a November 1 deadline for their departure or else face forced expulsion.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban administration’s spokesperson, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express disapproval, asserting that Afghans should not be held responsible for Pakistan’s security concerns. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti justified the crackdown by alleging that Afghan nationals were responsible for 14 out of 24 suicide bombings in Pakistan this year.

This escalating tension underscores the complex relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with implications for the Afghan immigrant population caught in the crossfire. The international community will likely closely monitor developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving this issue peacefully.
