Iran has achieved another milestone in space technology by successfully launching the Noor-3 imaging satellite into orbit, reaching an altitude of 450 kilometers (280 miles) above Earth’s surface. Minister for Communication and Information Technology Issa Zarepour confirmed the successful launch and attributed it to the aerospace division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), utilizing the domestically produced Qassed launch vehicle.
Minister Zarepour expressed his congratulations for this achievement to the nation and lauded the dedicated efforts of professionals in Iran’s aerospace sector and experts within the IRGC Aerospace Force.
This launch follows the previous use of the Qassed launch vehicle for the Noor-2 satellite in March 2022, positioning it 500 kilometers (311 miles) above Earth’s surface, and the launch of Noor-1 in 2020.
It’s important to note that Iran’s satellite launches have faced criticism from the US, alleging that the country’s ballistic missile program could double as a platform for long-range weaponry. The US and European allies have called on Iran to halt its satellite launches, claiming violations of UN Security Council resolutions. However, Iran has consistently maintained that these launches are for research and agricultural purposes.
Despite facing technical challenges resulting in failed satellite launches in recent years, Iran continues to advance its space capabilities, highlighting its dedication to technological progress amid international scrutiny.
